Robin Thicke Finds Upside To His Split With Paula Patton: 'Best Writing' In A Long Time

First the good news: all that nightly begging on stage
 is working. Well, kind of.

Since his split
with longtime love wife Paula Patton earlier this year, Robin Thicke has been pouring it on during his shows, dedicating love songs to her
and working every angle to find his way back into her heart.

In one of his only interviews since the couple's separation, Thicke told People magazine on Tuesday that the pair are doing better than ever and that the message has clearly reached its intended audience. "My music is very honest about what I'm going through and my songs are about my life," he said. "And my relationship with her was 21 years of my life, so I just thought it was important to me to let people know how much she means to me."

Patton has been publicly quiet about the break-up and his live love letters, but Thicke swears she digs it. "She loved it," he said. "She thought it was the sweetest thing and very romantic, and I've always been a romantic guy that way."

Thicke didn't really give a status update on a possible reconciliation, but he said both are doing very well and are very happy. As a bonus, after living through the wildest, most successful year of his career, Thicke is definitely planning to put it into song.

"We're both very happy right now — much happier," he said. "Everything about this moment in my life — this amazing year I just had and what I'm going through personally — has actually ignited some of the best writing I've done in a long time ... Whatever everybody's wondering about, they're going to hear it all in the album."
