'Where is David Cameron?' hot Google search term during election debate

David Cameron 's absence was one of the biggest questions asked online during tonight's challengers' debate.

The second-most searched question on Google during the event broadcast live on BBC One was: 'Where is David Cameron?'

The leaders of all five opposition parties - Labour's Ed Miliband, the SNP's Nicola Sturgeon, UKIP's Nigel Farage, the Green Party's Natalie Bennett and Plaid Cymru's Leanne Wood - all appeared on the debate.

The only question which more people searched for was: 'What is austerity?'

Prime Minister David Cameron refused to take part in more than one televised debate during campaigning and demanded all seven leaders were represented, leading to a debate shown by ITV before Easter.

Nick Clegg revealed on Twitter that he was not invited to take part, presumably because he is in coalition with Cameron and therefore not technically a challenger to the current government.

Channel 4 is to air the first ever Youth Leaders' Debate on April 28, with a studio audience made up of young voters.
