Daft Punk chose to cancel 'Colbert Report' appearance, says MTV

MTV has said that Daft Punk chose to cancel their appearance on The Colbert Report, contrary to previous claims.

The 'Get Lucky' stars' recent scheduled performance on the talkshow, hosted by Stephen Colbert, was axed at the last minute.

Colbert had then opened the show on Tuesday, August 6 by stating that a conflict in scheduling between Comedy Central and MTV had led to the French duo, who recently confirmed their new single 'Lose Yourself To Dance', to pull out of their appearance.

However, MTV has now claimed that it was in fact Daft Punk's decision to cancel, just hours before they were due to be on air.

Colbert had originally said on August 6: "Here's the story - it's a true story. We booked click and clack over here about a month ago. This network is owned by Viacom, which is also the owner of MTV. Apparently, Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards.

"Don't tell anyone, because fun fact - no-one told me until two hours ago."

Speaking about the incident, the presenter has also claimed that in the month ahead of Daft Punk's scheduled appearance on the show, the artists reportedly refused the idea of talking or performing.

He relayed: "They said, 'Do you want to cancel?' I said, 'No, this is an interesting challenge'.

"I wish we could have done this joke," continued Colbert. "It was, 'Paul [Hahn, their manager], can I ask you - how do I even know it's them in the robot outfits, how do I even know it's them?' And he goes, 'Stephen, if it wasn't really them, they'd be doing the song'."

Instead, various stars including Matt Damon, Jimmy Fallon and the cast of Breaking Bad ended up dancing to 'Get Lucky' - something Daft Punk were allegedly "uncomfortable" with the idea of.

However, Jesse Ignjatovic, the executive producer of the VMAs, has subsequently told The Hollywood Reporter : "We don't put restrictions on anyone. I just think that we're talking to them about a moment and then things sort of change.

"I would not describe that as MTV putting restrictions on people - it was up to that artist and their management what they wanted to do."
