The star will take to the stage at the ceremony, which takes place at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn on August 25.
She joins Lady Gaga on the lineup, who will give the first live performance of her newly-released single 'Applause'.
Kanye West and Miley Cyrus will also play at the ceremony, with Justin Timberlake and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis leading this year's nominations.
Daft Punk are also rumoured to be making a rare TV appearance at the awards.
Perry is a four-time VMA winner and took home the coveted 'Video of the Year' award for her 'Firework' music video in 2011.
She has previously performed at the annual awards twice and made her first appearance back in 2008 to sing her breakout hit 'I Kissed A Girl'.
Speaking about new single 'Roar', Perry told BBC Radio 1 that the song was inspired by her time in therapy since the release of her last album.
