Singer Anastacia is recovering these days from a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time back in February.

Anastacia reportedly released a statement to her fans, according to both the New York Daily News and the Daily Mail, in which she revealed she had undergone the breast removal procedure and is in the "final stages" of recovery.

"I was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time earlier this year and am currently in the final stages of recovery after undergoing a double mastectomy," she said, per NYDN. "It has been an intense journey but I am feeling great and ready to start the next chapter."

The 45-year-old, who had overcome the disease through surgery and radiation back in 2003, explained her reasoning for revealing such personal information. "In light of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to take the opportunity to support a cause particularly close to my heart," she said, according to the Daily Mail. "Breast Cancer Awareness Month gives all who are facing this disease a chance to gain strength and support from each other. Early detection has saved my life twice. I will continue to battle and lend my voice in anyway I can."

The singer canceled her European tour in February after the second diagnosis, adds the BBC. And Anastacia is hardly alone: both Angelina Jolie and Sharon Osbourne have revealed undergoing a double mastectomy.
