In Van Damme's original clip, the action star performs the splits between two moving trucks as part of an advert for Volvo Trucks.
Tatum's response video sees him riding two food carts on the set of the upcoming film 22 Jump Street , reciting a similar speech to Van Damme's while the same background music plays.
However, while Van Damme performs the stunt perfectly, in Tatum's video - named Jenko's Epic Split after his character in the film - he is seen lying on the floor in pain after attempting the stunt.
A spokesman for Volvo has maintained that Van Damme did the stunt himself without using a body double. It was recorded in one take.
22 Jump Street, the sequel to 21 Jump Street, is scheduled for release in June 2014 and will star Jonah Hill alongside Tatum.
