The 20-year-old was seen producing a suspicious-looking cigarette from her handbag and lighting it up as she collected her 'Best Video' award for 'Wrecking Ball' in Amsterdam last night (November 10).
However, when the ceremony aired in the US several hours later, Cyrus's speech was edited to leave only her messages of thanks to collaborators on the video and her goodbye to the audience.
A wide-shot of the audience at Amsterdam's Ziggo Dome was used to cover up the absence of her cigarette stunt.

Presumably tweeting about the incident this afternoon, Cyrus wrote: "Sometimes in life you just gotta decide to not give AF."
In addition to her 'Best Video' award, Cyrus was also named 'Best United States Act'.
The former Hannah Montana actress opened the EMAs with a rendition of 'We Can't Stop' and also performed 'Wrecking Ball'.
The 2013 MTV EMAs ceremony is repeated in full tonight (Monday, November 11) at 6.30pm on MTV UK.
