Speaking to Harper's Bazaar Australia , Kidman revealed that winning an Oscar for The Hours in 2003 left her feeling "empty" due to her personal struggles.

She explained that winning the prestigious award "can show you the emptiness of your own life, which is kind of what it showed me".

She added: "I was having professional success and my personal life was struggling."

The actress continued to say that she prefers to take on smaller movie roles compared to a decade or so ago.

"I'm not carrying the whole film, and it's not six to seven months' work like Moulin Rouge!," she said. "I get to come for three weeks and then go home."

The star recently described her marriage to Cruise as "very intoxicating".

Kidman now lives in Nashville with her husband, country singer Keith Urban, and their two daughters.
