Celebrity Big Brother's Lee Ryan saved my life, says Simon Webbe

Simon Webbe has described Lee Ryan as his "saviour" when discussing his early career.

The Blue singer explained that the Celebrity Big Brother housemate helped him through tough times over a decade ago, when first moving to London.

On how he first met Ryan, Webbe told Metro : "I started training in the gym and entered a modelling competition which is where I met Lee. The first time I saw him he seemed different to anybody that I had ever met. In these auditions everyone was so reserved, but not Lee, he was the life and soul in the room.

"We were split into groups and Lee, Duncan and I were put in a group together with a few other boys. As soon as Lee opened his mouth about a band I knew the project was going to be big."

Over a year later, the singers got back into contact during a low period of Webbe's life.

"On the day that my grandad died Lee called me and it was like my grandad was sending a message. Lee persuaded me to move into his house.

"People need to remember that I didn't know this boy well but he had it in his heart to look after me when I had nobody else in London. I didn't know where my life was leading and when I got to London it was so hard. Lee was always the one that helped me to forget my problems."

Speaking about how the band got together, he continued: "Eventually the Blue audition finally came around and Lee told me I should go along. I told him no because I owed him enough and I would have hated it if I had got the audition and he didn't.

"I did not want to take that away from my saviour. To this day I still owe him my life and I will support him forever. The Lee I know is my saviour."

Webbe added: "Not many people know this, but Lee and I have this special moment on stage every time we perform. When we dreamt of being in a band we would practice in front of the mirror whilst standing on the couch and pretended that we were at Wembley.

"Now every time we are on stage we look at each other and remember the days of standing on the couch singing into the mirror. He knows in that moment that I am saying thank you, thank you for having my back.

"He'll always be the guy that saved me and for that I will always owe him."

Lee Ryan is currently taking part in Channel 5's Celebrity Big Brother, and has been nominated for eviction on two occasions.
