Game of Thrones showrunners sign up for seasons 5 and 6

Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have signed up for two more seasons.

HBO is yet to officially renew the show past its upcoming fourth season, though this new deal would see Benioff and Weiss continue up till the end of season six, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The pair recently suggested that Game of Thrones - one of HBO's biggest hits - will likely draw to a close after seven seasons.

George RR Martin - author of the fantasy novels on which the series is based - has also claimed that the show could get a big-screen spinoff.


The fourth season of Game of Thrones will debut on April 6 on HBO. In the UK, the new episodes will air on Sky Atlantic from April 7.


New cast members include Mark Gatiss (Sherlock ), Joel Fry (Plebs), Indira Varma (Luther ) and Pedro Pascal (Homeland , The Good Wife ), who will play Prince Oberyn Martell - aka The Red Viper.
