SimCity single-player offline mode out now

SimCity's offline, single-player mode is out now as part of a new update.

The update, which is in the process of being rolled out, also improves performance and introduces new save options.

According to the patch notes, single-player mode includes "multi-city play, regional interdependence, and city specialisation. Regions are saved locally and there is no limit on number of save games."

Players can also disable auto-save and make copies of their regions at multiple save points.


Friend searches, meanwhile, are now tied to Origin accounts.


Maxis originally said that SimCity wouldn't support offline play because online was a .

The studio then started exploring an offline mode following connectivity issues at launch.

The first expansion for SimCity, 'Cities of Tomorrow', was released last November. It takes players 50 years into the future.
