The actor is alleged to have got in touch with Lucy Clode after she posted an image of him on Instagram, which she had taken outside the stage doors of Franco's Broadway production of Of Mice and Men in New York.

The teenager later posted screenshots of a supposed conversation between the pair, in which Franco appears to ask Clode for her age and relationship status, before asking her if he should book a room in the hotel at which she's staying.
Unsure whether the messages are genuine, Clode seemingly asks the actor to send an image of himself holding up a piece of paper with her name on it, which Franco appears to do.
The actor has insisted that nothing improper took place following the leaked exchange - after apparently posting a since-deleted Instagram picture of himself with the words "Why are you thirsty for underage ones?", he then tweeted: "I'M NOT! I HOPE PARENTS KEEP THEIR TEENS AWAY FROM ME. Thank you."
The legal age of consent in New York, where Clode was staying, is 17.
Franco's upcoming film Palo Alto is about a football coach (played by Franco) who has an affair with a teenager. It has been speculated that the alleged messages with Clode are part of a stunt to promote the movie.
