Research by the Natural Resources Defence Council (NRDC) suggests that current-generation console owners have higher electricity bills than those with older hardware.
The NRDC's figures also indicate that the Nintendo Wii U is more energy efficient than the PS4 and Xbox One, but all three consoles were criticised for how much power they waste in standby mode.
The PS4, Xbox One and Wii U are claimed to squander $400 million worth of electricity when on standby.

Microsoft 's Xbox One was listed as the worst offender both when running and in standby mode.
