BlackBerry Passport shown running Android apps in latest leak

BlackBerry 's Passport smartphone has been glimpsed running Android apps in its latest leak.

Images published by n4bb appear to dispel fears that the phone's square form factor and 1:1 aspect ratio are poorly equipped for traditional software.

The photographs show Android software scaling perfectly on the device, without letterboxing or stretching, but it's yet to be confirmed whether BB10 applications will fare as well.

The Passport offers a unique 4.5-inch square screen with full HD capabilities - significantly bigger than the largest on the market, such as Samsung's Galaxy Note 3.

BlackBerry claims that a square shape enables it to accommodate a greater number of characters on screen - 60 characters instead of around 40 - for reading e-books, viewing documents and browsing the web.

The BlackBerry Passport will be released in September.
