Parkinson's chat with the five-time Olympic gold medal winner airs tonight on Channel 10 and apparently includes a frank discussion about "depression" related to Thorpe allegedly remaining in the closet for years, according to Australia's Daily Telegraph .
Thorpe has denied widely-published rumours about his sexuality in the past, including writing in his memoir This Is Me about the pain caused by the controversy.
Parkinson was quoted by the newspaper as saying that he is immensely proud of the candor in his chat with Thorpe.
"I think his sexuality is no one's business but his own," the veteran interview said. "But I think it's one of the best interviews I have ever done in terms of [Thorpe] talking about depression and things like that."
Channel 10 declined to comment last week on rumours that Thorpe would discuss his sexuality in this new interview.
