NBC president of alternative programming Paul Telegdy said at the TCA Press Tour today (July 13) that the network is in "an active creative discussion" about The Maya Rudolph Show, and that its pilot had been an "imperfect first episode".

"It is a show we were really proud of," Telegdy added. "On balance, we really enjoyed the experience."

The Maya Rudolph Show marked the return of the variety show format to NBC, coming four years after a critically-panned 2010 Rosie O'Donnell series that only aired one episode.

Rudolph has an established professional relationship with NBC, given her work on Saturday Night Live and Up All Night .
