The PM has issued instructions to the ministry of information, broadcasting and national heritage to acquire the house in order to promote unity and cultural relations between the people of India and Pakistan, NDTV Movies reports.
After acquiring the property, the Pakistan government is reportedly planning to reconstruct it and convert it into a museum.
Kumar's former home is located in Pesawar's famous Qisa Khawani Bazaar area.
It is currently illegally occupied by somebody claiming to be a relative of the actor.
The veteran actor and other members of his family will be invited to Pakistan for the inauguration of the museum.
Bollywood's biggest stars recently paid tribute to the veteran at the launch of his biography entitled The Substance and the Shadow.
Written by author Uday Tara Nayar, the book chronicles the life and career of the acclaimed actor in his six decades in Hindi cinema.
The actor has starred in classic films including Naya Daur, Devdas, Madhumati and Mughal-e-Azam, acting in over 100 films since beginning his career in 1944.
