Shakira performs at World Cup closing ceremony

Shakira has performed at the World Cup closing ceremony.

The ceremony took place at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, shortly before the final between Germany and Argentina.

She performed 'La La La (Brazil 2014)' alongside Brazilian musician Carlinhos Brown.

She was also joined onstage by guitarist Carlos Santana, Brazilian singer Ivete Sangalo and a samba school.

Stars watching on in the stands included Rihanna and David Beckham, as well as football legend Pele and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It's the third time that Shakira has took part in World Cup closing ceremonies after she performed 'Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)' in South Africa 2010 and and 'Hips Don't Lie' in Germany 2006.

The opening ceremony saw Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte perform.

Shakira recently thanked the World Cup for bringing her and her partner Gerard Pique together.

She said: "[I] will never forget that I met the love of my life at the World Cup."
