Strictly Come Dancing beats The X Factor in Friday's ratings battle

Strictly Come Dancing won its ratings battle with The X Factor on Friday night (September 26).

Friday's show, which saw six couples take to the dance floor, was seen by an average audience of 6.53 million (28.5%) at 9pm on BBC One.

The X Factor, which also started at 9pm on ITV, was seen by an average audience of 5.28 million (23.3%).

Strictly peaked with an audience of 6.67 million (28.7%), while The X Factor peaked with 5.6 million (24.3%).


BBC One's evening kicked off with 3.39 million (19%) for The One Show at 7pm, followed by 3.2 million (16.7%) for A Question of Sport immediately after.


Would I Lie To You was seen by 3.33 million (15.4%) at 8.30pm, while the first in a new series of The Graham Norton Show entertained 3.14 million (24.1%) at 10.35pm.

Gino's Italian Escape: A Taste of the Sun was another ratings success for ITV, picking up viewing figures of 2.38 million (11.6%) at 8pm.

Over on BBC Two, Mastermind played to 990k (5.6%) at 7pm, followed by 1 million (5.2%) for Lorraine Pascale: How to Be a Better Cook.


Gardeners' World was seen by an evening high of 2.32 million (11.4%) at 8pm, while footage from the first day of The Ryder Cup was watched by 1.57 million (7%) from 8.30pm until 10pm.


The latest episode from the Mock the Week gang reeled in 1.38 million (7.6%) at 10pm.


Sandy and Sandra on Gogglebox Series 4 (Year 4)



The return of Gogglebox was Channel 4's highest-rated show with 1.89 million (8.2%) at 8pm. A further 782k (4.7%) watched it an hour later on +1.

Elsewhere, The Million Pound Drop was seen by 1 million (4.8%) at 8pm, while Alan Carr: Chatty Man played to 920k (5.7%).


Body of Proof was Channel 5's highest-rated show, pulling in 599k (2.6%) at 9pm.


The Xtra Factor was one of the best performing multichannel shows with 505k viewers (2.9%) at 10pm.
