X Factor Charlie Brown backed by Joey Essex: We went to school together

The X Factor hopeful Charlie Brown can count on support from one famous face as Joey Essex has revealed they went to school together.

Brown will audition during tonight's episode in the hope of getting through the dreaded Six Chair Challenge and into Mel B's top six.

And Essex told Digital Spy that he is "supporting him all the way".

"He was my best friend in primary school, literally my best friend," he said. "When we were babies at primary school and that, he was my best mate - I grew up with him.

"He went to another secondary school and we didn't see each other so much. But if we see each other we always go, 'Oh my God, how are you?' I know he's always loved singing and his guitar and all that. And he's such a nice kid, he is. Proper, proper down to earth, every time I've seen him."

Essex continued: "I'm really friendly with his mum and his sister. My sister rang me up the other day and was like, 'Charlie Brown is on X Factor!' I've been talking to him."

Essex also revealed that he messaged Brown as soon as he heard about his X Factor dreams, saying: "I had his number stored in my phone so I texted him like, 'Is this still your number?' and he texted back like, 'Oh what's happening?' So it was weird. But I'm supporting Charlie Brown all the way - a really nice boy."

The X Factor continues tonight (September 27) at 8pm on ITV.

Joey Essex was speaking to Digital Spy to launch new retailer Doddle; brand new shops in and around train stations across the country for online shoppers to collect, send and return parcels. Shops are open early until late seven days a week and people can sign up for free at http://ift.tt/1vf3v5F
