The Spiral Cage creator's new project continues his memoir about growing up with spina bifida (via Down the Tubes ).
Davison - who was not expected to live past infancy - is attempting to return to work on the project with the assistance of the crowd-funding platform.
"Muscle Memory: A Survivor's Tale is even more of a challenge than the first volume, as it not only continues to look at disability issues, but also addresses my experiences of physical child abuse at the hands of my father," he wrote on the Patreon page.
"I want to make it clear that this is not a story of victimisation, but a story of survival and of winning against the odds. There will inevitably be distressing scenes throughout the series, but it is also an optimistic and often funny look at my life, because that's how I am."
Davison is also known for his work on Vertigo titles including Hellblazer, The Dreaming and The Unwritten, as well as IDW's Doctor Who comics.
The cartoonist recently relocated his Astral Gypsy shop to Fargo Studios' Creative Village in Far Gosford Street, Coventry.
