Eric Clapton pays tribute to 'inspirational' Cream bandmate Jack Bruce

Eric Clapton has paid tribute to 'inspirational' ex-Cream bandmate Jack Bruce.

The singer and bass player, who performed alongside Clapton and Ginger Baker in Cream, died yesterday (October 25) at age 71.

Writing on his Facebook page, Clapton remembered: "He was a great musician and composer, and a tremendous inspiration to me."

In a music career which spanned nearly 50 years, Bruce was the voice and songwriter behind many of Cream's biggest hits, including 'I Feel Free' and 'Sunshine of Your Love'.

After Cream split in 1968, Bruce went on to have a successful solo career, releasing his last album Silver Rails in March 2014.

Cream drummer Baker also paid tribute to Bruce on his own official fan Facebook page, posting an image of the trio together.

A statement on Bruce's official website announced his death: "It is with great sadness that we, Jack's family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father and granddad and all-round legend.

"The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts."
