The Shamitabh star was speaking at the unveiling of the trailer for Broken Horses in Mumbai when he made the claim.
"If I get an opportunity to choose a film between Hollywood and an Indian film, then I will choose our country's film," he said, according to IANS .
PK star Aamir Khan, who also attended the trailer launch, echoed the sentiment, explaining: "My relation with my country is very deep and that will never fade away. I will not leave my country. If at all I like the subject of a Hollywood film, I will do it. But emotionally I am very rooted.
"For me, the language is not important, but the creative material has to excite me. Yes, I should know the language and the story has to be exciting."
The actor revealed he has had offers from the west, but the scripts he has received have not been exciting enough.
Produced, directed and written by filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Broken Horses stars an international cast including Maria Valverde, Thomas Jane, Anton Yelchin and Vincent D'Onofrio.
Set in the shadows of the US-Mexico border gang wars, Broken Horses is described as an epic thriller about the bonds of brotherhood, laws of loyalty, and the futility of violence. The film is set for release on April 10.
