Shraddha Kapoor: 'Stand up against abuse, not just today but everyday'

Shraddha Kapoor has urged women to stand up against abuse.

On the occasion of International Women's Day, the Haider actress said people should stand up against abuse every day and not just on a single day.

In a series of tweets, the 26-year-old wrote: "Love and respect to all you lovely ladies out there! ALWAYS keep your head up and NEVER stop being FEARLESS!!! #ProudToBeAnIndianWoman

"Women are NOT objects. They NEED to be respected. Women empowerment is the best change to make the world a better place.

"Every 20 mins or so, there is a rape happening in our country. And today we are "celebrating" womens day," she added.

India has been in the spotlight for the high incidence of rapes and brutal attacks against women.

Bollywood stars have expressed their outrage and endeavoured to take decisive action to promote gender equality.

Farhan Akhtar's MARD campaign aims to create greater awareness of gender issues in India, while Akshay Kumar has launched free self-defence classes for women.
