According to The Hollywood Reporter, further details are as yet unclear but the new show is likely to be set up in the final episodes of season two of Agents of SHIELD.
ABC and Marvel are still to confirm the castings.
The spinoff comes from Jeffrey Bell (Angel, The X-Files) and SHIELD writer Paul Zbyszewski (Lost).
ABC is also developing another SHIELD spinoff - the other series focuses on the revival of an existing superhero and comes from executive producer John Ridley.
