Amy Schumer’s One Direction Spoof Started A Powerful Twitter Campaign

Last night’s Inside Amy Schumer featured a sketch parodying music’s obsession with telling girls and women they don’t need makeup to look pretty. The sketch included a One Direction-esque boy band—with four members, how timely!—who tell Amy to ditch the makeup and then change their minds when they see what she actually looks like without makeup.

While the sketch itself is LOL and great—as most things Amy does are, IMHO—she brought the sketch’s message off-screen—and, hopefully, into real lives—by encouraging the good people of Twitter to share their no-makeup photos using the hashtag #girlyoudontneedmakeup.

She kicked things off with a photo of herself and fans/followers/devotees of different ages, races, and genders flooded in with photos.

After the episode aired, Amy shared her response to all of the gorgeous and diverse photos.

Be sure to check out more photos on Twitter—they’re still coming in!—and, more importantly, as Amy so perfectly puts it, “smile at yourself in the mirror.”
