‘The Divergent Series: Allegiant’ Just Cast Its Big Bad

It looks like “The Divergent Series: Allegiant” may have found its Big Bad — or, at least, its Big Shady, Probably Bad — at long last.

Jeff Daniels is in final negotiations to play genetic researcher David in the two-part finale to “The Divergent Series,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

At the conclusion of “The Divergent Series: Insurgent,” Tris (Shailene Woodley), Four (Theo James) and the rest of the inhabitants of the walled-in former Chicago learned that they were part of a massive genetic experiment, isolated for generations to try and weed out the worst parts of human tendencies. Those demonized Divergents, like Tris, it turned out, were a sign that the experiment had succeeded.

In the Suzanne Collins novels the movie franchise is based on, the Genetic Warfare Division controls the world outside the wall. (No, they’re not just “waiting, with hope, beyond the wall.” They’re also waiting with syringes and tests and stuff.) David is the leader of the group, and his intentions are…unclear, to say the least.

What do you think of Jeff Daniels in the role?

“The Divergent Series: Allegiant – Part 1″ is set to hit theaters March 18, 2016.
