Dr Luke 'confirmed for American Idol'

Dr Luke has signed up to appear as a judge on the upcoming season of American Idol.

Rumours that the songwriter and producer was to join the Fox show emerged earlier this week but E! has now confirmed the news.

The musician - real name Lukasz Gottwald - will accompany returning judges Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez on the panel when the show returns for its 13th season.

Fox confirmed that Urban, who made his debut last season, would reprise his role as a judge earlier this month, while Lopez returns after a year away from the panel.

Dr Luke has a wealth of experience in the music industry, having collaborated with artists including Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry. He co-wrote and produced Perry's latest single 'Roar'.

The signing comes after rumoured plans for The Voice UK mentor will.i.am to join the show reportedly came to an end after they were unable to agree a fee.
