Mike Tyson: "I'm on the verge of dying because I'm an alcoholic"

Mike Tyson has claimed to be "on the verge of dying" from ongoing drug and alcohol abuse.

The former heavyweight boxing champion admitted on ESPN's Friday Night Fights that he has been lying about being sober.

"I want to live my sober life. I don't want to die. I'm on the verge of dying because I'm a vicious alcoholic," the 47-year-old confessed.

"I haven't drank or took drugs in six days and for me that's a miracle. I've been lying to everybody else that thinks I was sober, but I'm not. This is my sixth day. I'm never going to use again."

He added: "I'm a bad guy sometimes. I did a lot of bad things, and I want to be forgiven. So in order for me to be forgiven, I hope they can forgive me. I want to change my life, I want to live a different life now."

Tyson has moved into acting in recent years, appearing in the likes of The Hangover and How I Met Your Mother.

It was announced in May that he would voice a cartoon version of himself in a new animated comedy series for Adult Swim called Mike Tyson Mysteries.
