The controversial X Factor star had been at a birthday party at The Bootle Arms in Melling, near Liverpool, when he was recognised in the street while with his family and 4-year-old nephew.
"I heard one shout, 'You're that guy off X Factor'. Then they all started. They called my nan, who's 77, a slag and a sl*t. Luckily she wasn't with me," Maloney told the Sunday Mirror .
"As we drove out of the car park, the car window was smashed, I was scared for my life and so worried about my nephew. He was crying and there were shards of glass on his legs. We all screamed."
He added: "X Factor needs a better support network, so people know what to expect. I was very naive when I went on the show. There are always a few who take things too far. I've had to grow such a thick skin.
"I don't venture out at night unless I have at least three people with me. I don't get public transport because of safety. I even went to the doctor because I felt so shaken up."
Merseyside police confirmed that officers attended an incident on August 12, explaining that one man was interviewed but no further action will be taken.
The 35-year-old singer told Digital Spy earlier this year that both himself and his nan had been sent death threats following his appearance on The X Factor.
Maloney releases his new single 'My Heart Belongs To You' on October 6. Preview the track below:
