The Wright Girls follows two sitcom stars and roommates, who see their friendship tested when they are both up for the lead role in a big movie.
The movie is based on the Japanese hit 2LDK.
Connolly said in a statement: "I'm excited for the opportunity to work with Jessica... and re-imagine this great story for a new audience. It's been great working with everyone at [producers] Atlas as we gear up for production."
The director also worked with Alba on the upcoming Dear Eleanor , the story of two teenage girls who go on a trip to search for the former first lady of the US Eleanor Roosevelt.
Connolly is best known for his role in HBO series Entourage, which will be turned in to a film feature.
Alba will be seen next in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For , a follow up to the 2005 movie Sin City .
