Un-Real is based on Shapiro's short film Sequin Raze, which takes a look at the chaos surrounding the production of a fictitious dating competition show.

Shiri Appleby will play lead character Rachel, a young staffer on the show tasked with manipulating her relationships with and among the contestants to heighten drama for a dispassionate executive producer (Megyn Price).

Harry Potter actor Freddie Stroma also stars in the dark comedy, alongside Josh Kelly, Nathalie Kelley, Johanna Braddy and Breeda Wool.

Un-Real is the first Lifetime series to be wholly owned by A+E Studios .

A premiere date is yet to be announced.
