Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy has been diagnosed with a lung disease.

"I quit smoking 30 yrs ago. Not soon enough. I have COPD. Grandpa says, quit now!! LLAP," Nimoy wrote.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is thought to be linked to smoking, but the 82-year-old said he gave up 30 years ago.

"I quit smoking 30 yrs ago. Not soon enough. I have COPD. Grandpa says, quit now!! LLAP," Nimoy wrote.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is the name for a collection of lung diseases, which include chronic bronchitis, emphysema and chronic obstructive. All forms make it increasingly difficult for the sufferer to breathe.
Despite reducing his workload in recent years, the actor made an appearance as Spock Prime in last year's Star Trek Into Darkness .
Up until 2012 he also guest starred in several episodes of Fox sci-fi series Fringe as Dr William Bell.
