Idris Elba to voice killer tiger Shere Khan in Disney's Jungle Book reboot

Idris Elba is in line to join Disney's live-action reboot of The Jungle Book, voicing the killing tiger Shere Khan

Deadline confirms that Jon Favreau is directing the movie, based on the classic Rudyard Kipling novel about Mowgli - a boy raised in the Indian jungle by animals.

Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li) is writing the script.

Elba was most recently seen in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and Thor: the Dark World .


He will also be among the mentors in new Sky1 talent show Launching People .


Iron Man director Favreau is already attached to Disney's Magic Kingdom , an upcoming adventure film set at the Disneyland theme park in California.


Disney is working on a number of live-action re-imaginations, including the likes of Angelina Jolie's Maleficent - based on Sleeping Beauty - and Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella .
