SXSW 2014: 7 Movies And TV Shows We're Dying To Check Out

There are a lot of film festivals every year, but there's nothing quite like SXSW in Austin. Besides taking place in what's probably (or definitely) the coolest city in the world, SXSW attracts some of the world's best filmmakers who want to debut their new projects in a space that's a little weirder than your typical fest.

This year's SXSW film line-up has its fair share of interesting debuts, mixing art house prestige with some commercial comedies. Check out our must-see movies (and a couple TV shows) below.

"Veronica Mars"

Of course I'm excited for the "Veronica Mars" movie! It's not like every film wins the MTV Movie Brawl. The Kickstarter project brings everyone's favorite sleuth back to her hometown and her old detective-y habits.

"Chef"

"Iron Man" director Jon Favreau is pulling double duty in this foody drama about a chef that quits his job to hit the road with his son and a truck full of good eats.

"Oculus"

Former "Doctor Who" companion and future "Guardians of the Galaxy" badass Karen Gillen stars in this mind-bending tale of an evil mirror that really, really messes with anyone who looks into it.

"Neighbors"

Seth Rogen and Zac Efron face off in this battle of next door neighbors. It's all-out war when a fraternity moves in just one house over from a set of new parents.

"Cesar Chavez"

Diego Luna returns to the director's chair for this biopic of the famous migrant leader and social activist. Michael Peña stars.

"Penny Dreadful"

Television has had a growing presence at SXSW, and this year will see the premiere of Showtime's new dark fantasy from "Skyfall" director Sam Mendes and writer John Logan, starring Eva Green and Josh Hartnett.

"Silicon Valley"

Similarly, HBO will be showing off the latest from Austin-native and "Beavis and Butthead" creator Mike Judge. The show follows a group of techy friends after their startup goes big.
