It is alleged that police on patrol under the Harbor Freeway spotted Efron and his bodyguard being attacked by at least three other people.

Police are thought to have broken up the fight and questioned the actor over the incident. He reportedly told them that he had run out of gas and was sitting in his car.

While waiting for a tow truck, he allegedly threw a bottle out of the window, with it smashing on the pavement near a group of men.

The men are then said to have confronted him and the bodyguard, believing that he deliberately threw the bottle at them.

Efron is said to have subsequently been hit in the mouth while trying to help his bodyguard.

"It was the hardest I've ever been hit in my life," Efron is quoted as saying.

The actor recently hinted that he may have signed up for a role in Star Wars: Episode VII .
