Forsyth will host the show, which will feature artists celebrating and paying tribute to the stars who inspired them on the famous Palladium stage.
EastEnders star Jessie Wallace, jazz singer Jamie Cullum, comic Jason Manford and Death In Paradise's Ben Miller are among the stars taking part.
Tenor Alfie Boe and impressionist Jon Culshaw complete the lineup.
The show will put a "modern twist" on some of the most famous acts of all time, as today's stars pay homage to their heroes.
"It's always very special to set foot on the Palladium stage - the more so when introducing such a talented group of performers and celebrating some of the great names of showbusiness," said Forsyth.
BBC One entertainment commissioner Mark Linsey said: "Bruce is a legend of BBC One Saturday night TV, and it's fantastic news that he'll be back to host this exciting one-off special for us."
Jimmy Mulville, from the show's producers Hat Trick, added: "It's such an honour to be working with Sir Bruce again after his classic appearance on Have I Got News For You ten years ago, and a delight to be co-producing with Jane Lush, whose small team seem to have the biggest and best ideas."
Forsyth retired from Strictly Come Dancing live broadcasts this year, after hosting 11 series of the BBC One celebrity reality show.
He will continue to host the Christmas specials, Children in Need episode and other one-off editions of Strictly.
