In a Twitter post, the company said it is "still 100% committed" to the move, despite its rocky financial situation and planned sale.
"Still 100% committed to bringing #BBM to Android and iPhone. Sign up at BBM.com to know when #BBM4All," the firm wrote.
BBM is one BlackBerry's most prized assets and was scheduled to launch on the iPhone and Android platforms on September 21.
However, a leak of an unofficial Android version prompted the firm to pause the launch.
Some users in New Zealand and Australia managed to download the app before it was pulled.
The delay has not helped BlackBerry during tough times, after the company recently revealed it lost $965 million (£600m) in just 90 days.
A consortium led by Fairfax Financial Holdings agreed to buy the business for $4.7 billion (£2.9bn) on September 23, subject to regulatory approvals.
