Leslie Jones has been promoted to the cast of Saturday Night Live.
As Deadline reports, Jones nearly joined the cast in January this year, having made the final shortlist of 12 actresses for the position eventually claimed by Sasheer Zamata. Jones was instead taken on in a writing capacity.

The actress and comedian had been a writer on the show since early 2014.

She has also appeared on screen in the Weekend Update segment, winning plaudits for her spot on slavery in May.
It was recently confirmed that Chris Rock and Prince will appear on Saturday Night Live on November 1.
Jim Carrey and Iggy Azalea will be the guests on SNL's Halloween show this Saturday (October 25).
