The actor, who has lived in the Indian state for 45 years, said he would like to play a role in promoting road safety, The Hindustan Times reports.
After a month-long road safety awareness drive, Bachchan told citizens of Thane: "When I can promote tourism in Gujarat, I can very well promote road safety awareness in Maharashtra."
The Shamitabh star said that driving licences should only be issued after vigorous testing and warned parents against giving cars to their children before they are capable drivers.
The 72-year-old actor, who was recently appointed as Maharashtra's horticulture ambassador, said that he has a strong affinity with Maharashtra and will endeavour to learn Marathi.
Bachchan is also the face of Gujarat tourism.
