Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton join 12 Years a Slave writer's TV pilot

Felicity Huffman and Timothy Hutton have joined the cast of Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave writer John Ridley's ABC pilot American Crime .

American Crime centers on the impact of a racially-charged murder trial on a Central Valley, California community.

Hutton will star as a big-box retail employee who moves from Arizona to California to reconnect with his two adult sons. Huffman is playing his ex-wife.

The former couple's lives face upheaval when son Matt and his wife Lily are murdered in their home.


Huffman is best known for her starring role in Desperate Housewives.

Hutton has recently appeared in Leverage from 2008 to 2012.

The actor also had an Oscar-winning role as an emotionally-damaged 20-year-old in Ordinary People.


12 Years a Slave's Ridley is writing, producing and directing the American Crime pilot.
