The Simpsons: 'No end in sight,' says executive producer Al Jean

The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean has insisted that there is no "end in sight" for the long-running series.

The hit animation - which first aired on Fox in 1989 - is currently airing its 26th season in the US, with Jean telling Digital Spy and others that he has "stopped trying to predict" how long will it will run.

"I don't see an end in sight - ratings are really good," he maintained. "I think it's going to go at least two more years, maybe four, maybe more.

"I've stopped trying to predict, because it always goes much further than anybody dreams."

However, Jean reiterated that while there are no concrete plans to make a second Simpsons movie, the idea does sometimes come up for discussion.

"No-one wants to do a bad movie," he explained. "We have ideas [for a second film] but it's a really tough bar it's gotta pass."

The Simpsons is on Channel 4 weeknights at 6.30pm, with season 26 beginning November 2 on Sky1. Channel 4 will also screen a selection of the greatest episodes as part of Simpsons Day on November 2.
